Ever Get Down on Yourself?

Do you ever get down on yourself? It is easy to say things to ourselves like, “I should have done this better! I should have done this sooner! I should have . . . .” Feelings of inadequacy can weigh us down into a quagmire of inactivity. When I experience those thoughts, and I often do, I preach to myself this concept: It is true that I am not adequate. I need to recognize it and then come to the Lord in order to experience His adequacy in my inadequacy. I have to continually remind myself of Jesus’ words in 2014-06-06 20.15.36John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” (NASB). As a branch, I won’t reflect the beauty of Christ unless I recognize my complete need to depend on Him. “Lord, help me to seek Your adequacy in my inadequacy.”
