“For God Alone My Soul Waits in Silence”

This week I read Psalm 62:1, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation” (ESV).  The Psalmist continues in verse 5, “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” I asked myself, “How often am I living this out?” A year ago as I stood on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with no people around, there was only the sound of the AtlIMG_1926antic Ocean. No clutter. No calls. No media. Silence reminds me of how often I try to
fill the void of my soul with everything except God. When “stuff” happens, it is so easy to try to fill the void apart from Him. The Psalmist reminds us that it is to Him and Him alone that we must come. Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”

  1. I appreciate the reminder about finding solace and hope only in God.
